The financial matters in the administration of the railways of the Commonwealth of Independent States, on which a decision will not be taken during two meetings of the CIS Council for Railway Transport, will be adopted by the votes of 2/3 of the Council members. Until now, the decisions were taken by the principle of consensus. This is the most important amendment to the Council’s Regulations agreed in the 59th meeting of the Council held in Chisinau on November 19-20, IPN reports.
The statement was made by the meeting’s chairman, president of Russia’s Railways Vladimir Iakunin in a news conference after the meeting. According to him, this way certain important decisions will no longer be delayed. He said that in general, the meting was productive.
Director general of Moldova’s Railways Andrei Domascan said this meeting was very important for Moldova as there was discussed the reformation of the Moldovan railroads. “Our colleagues’ opinion about the enterprises’ reformation is important to us,” he said., adding that they also discussed the acute problems of the railways and the actions for the immediate period, until a new meeting.
According to Vladimir Iakunin, the agenda included in particular the improvement of conditions for transporting passengers, which is permanently in the Council’s view as the travelling conditions must be simplified.
Earlier, the CIS Council for Railway Transport held three meetings in Chisinau – in November 1992, April 1996 and February 2002. The next meeting will take place in Kazakhstan in 2014.
Moldova’s Railways have taken part in the meetings of the CIS Council for Railway Transport since 1992. The body was created based on an agreement on the functioning of the railroad coordination bodies of the Commonwealth of Independent States that was signed by the CIS heads of government in Minsk on February 14, 1992.
