The full control over money imposed by the life partner is a form of domestic violence that should not be tolerated and should be reported., the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) says in a social advertisement addressed to victims of domestic violence, IPN reports.

The real story of a female teacher aged 47 whose costs are controlled by her husband is told through the voice of an actress of the National Theater “Mihai Eminescu”. “I’m 47 and work as a teacher. I have been married for 20 years. My husband always checked my purchases and my wallet. I daily  had to explain to him why I bought a coffee or a pie with money earned by me. One evening, I was preparing dinner and he came and asked that I should give him money to buy tires. I told him that there was no money left as I bought a winter coat. He got furious and shouted at me. He took my wallet and went to check how much money was there on my card. I never thought that something like this can happen in a family, that I will be so unhappy and tortured mentally in my own home,” related the protagonist.

The MIA says that economic  and psychological violence are forms of domestic violence that are less perceived as forms of abuse in Moldova. One should call the 112 Service or the trust line 0 8008 8008 at any hour to seek help. The persons at the Ministry’s Family Justice Center will be helped and protected by police officers, doctors, psychologists and other specialists. “We know what you go through and will help you to overcome these difficult moments,” the Ministry says in its message, urging the women who experience domestic violence to ask for the authorities’ assistance.

As many as 103 criminal cases over psychological violence in the family were started in Moldova during the first 10 months of this year . Fifteen of these cases refer to isolation, intimidation for the purpose of imposing personal will or control over the victim, which is treated as an offense in the Criminal Code of the Republic of Moldova.
