Finance Ministry suggests licensing transportation of parcels from abroad by minibuses

The Ministry of Finance proposed licensing the transportation of parcels sent to Moldova by citizens working abroad, Info-Prim Neo reports. Minister of Finance Veaceslav Negruta said this activity should be licensed so as to bring things in order. “When banned substances or things are found in those parcels, the drivers can say nothing as most of the times they don’t know what they convey,” he stated. The parcels usually contain food products, clothes, toys and things to be used in the home, but there were also discovered banned things. “Some of those parcels include industrial and agricultural equipment that is brought into Moldova without paying customs duties. Afterward, it is sold and there appears disloyal competition towards the economic entities that import it legally and pay all the necessary taxes into the budget,” said the minister. The press reported that radioactive and psychotropic substances that endanger the people’s health and security were also transported this way. ”The license tax may be symbolic. We do not want to impose a new burden on the persons who transport these parcels, but the license must stipulate the conditions and specify the list of products and things that can be conveyed,” said Veaceslav Negruta. The bill was sent to ministries and other authorities for approval and will be then submitted to the Government for consideration.
