The phase “Moldovan language” across the national legislation will be replaced with “Romanian language”, as will be the phrases “official language”, “state language” and “mother tongue”. The bill proposed by the PAS MPs was given a final reading and adopted by Parliament, IPN reports.
Within 30 days of the coming into force of the law, the public authorities responsible for approving and issuing normative documents inferior to laws will ensure the replacement.
Also, the national bank holiday “Our Language” from now on will be called the “Romanian Language” Day.
The bill was drafted to implement particular provisions of constitutional value contained in the documents of the Constitutional Court, which stipulate that the Romanian language is the official language of the Republic of Moldova.
The draft law was adopted by the votes 58 MPs. During the vote, the BCS MPs posted placards saying “Constitution of the RM: Moldova, Moldovans, Moldovan”, “People are sovereign, PAS is a tyrant” etc. Earlier, the Socialists said they will challenge this bill in the Constitutional Court.
