The sixth Film Festival “Meeting with Russia” was opened at the Russian Dramatic Theater “A. P. Chekhov” in Chisinau on October 10. This year’s festival that will take place during October 10-13 is dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the birth of writer Ion Druță, who didn’t yet attend the opening. As part of this event, films will be shown Chisinau, Bălți, Comrat, Cahul and Tvardița. Entrance to the screenings is free of charge, IPN reports.
The showings started in Chisinau with the film “The First” directed by Dmitry Suvorov. It is about the courage and love of the Pronchishchev couple who are known explorers of the Arctic. The same day there was shown the film “Go, Bay, Go” that is a production of Ion Druță’s novel “The Bay in Crimea”. The film “The Horse” of the series “Towns of Military Glory” will be screened in other towns of the country.
The festival’s general producer Vladimir Pirojok said all the films that will be screened as part of the event are premiered in Moldova. By such common activities and by cooperation in the field of culture, friendship between Moldova and Russia is strengthened.
Mikhail Davydov, director of the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Moldova, said the Festival is losing its territorial borders because it is an arts event that involves not only filmmakers, but the whole cultural community of Russia. The festival will include good films and intersecting masterclasses.
“Russia is not only politics, a state that makes many mistakes and there is not only today, but there is eternity that offers us the possibility of being humans. By word and by attention, we can move on. The friendship between out peoples is very important and significant as life enables us to understand each other only by exchanging opinions,” said Russian writer Victor Erofeev.
The guest of the festival, director and scriptwriter Boris Gracevski said he is not for the first time in the Republic of Moldova and every time he comes here he is welcomed warmly and interacts with hospitable people. He noted he regrets that cinematography in Moldova is not developed, even if there is potential.
The Film Festival will end with a concert given by Russian pop music singers, such as Vladimir Presnyakov senior, Olga Varvus and composer Aleksandr Jurbin. The event is organized with the support of the Russian Government and the Embassy of Russia in Moldova.
