Speaking at the central rostrum of the Moldovan Parliament on Thursday, February 7, MP Vlad Filat, leader of the Liberal Democratic Party, announced he was resigning his membership in the parliamentary sub-commission in charge with the supervision of the Security and Information Service (SIS), in protest against what he called abuses and usurpation of power. “Beyond laws and statements, President Vladimir Voronin has take total control over the Security and Information Service and changed it into an obedient tool of the ruling party and of him”, Vlad Filat said. The MP recalled the recent statements by Voronin, who said SIS should combat illegal political and media financing, including from external sources. “Thanks to these efforts, SIS regains the traits of a secret police, with duties typical of a state-party”, Filat stressed. During his speech, Filat criticised the present legislature, as well as the previous one, for being a step behind the legislative bodies that governed before 2001, calling it “a profanation of the notion of parliamentarianism”. The parliamentary sub-commission for SIS supervision started its activity in 2005.
