Prime Minister Vlad Filat said he was amazed by the way in which the national council for the reform of the legal system was constituted. “I was surprised by the nervousness and passion with which this council was presented. We will see how things develop. We will continue to work in the Government and present the bills concerning the reform of the legal system, as stipulated in the executive’s program,” Vlad Filat said in a press briefing, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. The Premier said he was also surprised by the fact that some of the members found out from the press that they form part of this council, including Minster of Justice Oleg Efrim. “It seems strange to me that personalities from the NGO sector were included in the council without asking them first. I hope at least Mister Plahotniuc knew that he will coordinate the work on the reform of the legal system as Mister Efrim found out from the press” said Vlad Filat. He said the council also includes managers of institutions that are to be reformed and persons who opposed the reformation process. He added that the aim of this council should be very clear and its composition must not arouse questions. Moldova's Acting President Marian Lupu signed the decree to set up the national council for the reform of the legal system on May 19. The council will be a consultative body consisting of representatives of the local public authorities and civil society. It will coordinate public authorities' actions aimed at reforming the legal system, will monitor the initiatives regarding the work of the judiciary and present proposals over these initiatives.
