Considering all probabilities, Vlad Filat aims for the post of Moldova's President, thinks political analyst Anatol Taranu, commenting on the Premier’s statement that his Liberal Democratic Party wants the President to be elected by direct popular vote.
“I guess that Vlad Filat considers a presidential republic to be more suitable at this stage than a parliamentary one”, said Taranu, mentioning that this would be the first conclusion to be drawn from the Premier’s statement.
The second conclusion is that Vlad Filat wants more than a presidential post with the powers currently held by Nicolae Timofti; he wants more authority. “And this means rebuilding the current political system”, said Taranu.
Anatol Taranu added that it’s important that Filat's priorities don't turn around, hoping that Filat’s understanding stems from the fact that a presidential republic would be more important for Moldova than a parliamentary one, and his desire to become President comes second.
Vlad Filat has stated during a TV show that the President of Moldova should be chosen directly by the citizens, and that the form of government should be a presidential one.
