Fifteen new cases of bird flu were reported in Moldova. Twelve outbreaks were detected in birds from non-professional farms, while the others are in the wild. The authorities set up protection zones of 3 kilometers and surveillance zones of 10 kilometers, IPN reports.
The National Food Safety Agency said that the Emergency Antipiezootic Commission was urgently convened and this approved a plan of measures to combat and eradicate the outbreak of avian influenza.
Currently, outbreaks of bird flu are in the districts of Ștefan Vodă, Căușeni, Anenii Noi, Criuleni, Chișinău, Strășeni, Orhei, Călărași, Rezina, Ungheni, Fălești, Șoldănești, Florești, Bălți, Glodeni, Drochia, Soroca, Râșcani, and Briceni.
Twenty-five outbreaks of bird flu were reported previously. In this context, restrictions on bird hunting were imposed along the eastern border of the country.
The Agency urges the population to keep birds inside yards and, if they notice clinical signs of the disease, to notify veterinarians immediately. Specialists warn that bird flu is a highly contagious infection that can also be transmitted to humans. That’s why particular measures to prevent the disease are also important, such as compliance with veterinary hygiene rules in domestic animal shelters, with personal hygiene rules, etc.
