The number of young people enrolled into the National Army in October 2018 – January 2019 will be decreased by 400 compared with the previous conscription period, while of recruits for the Carabineer Troops by 200, IPN reports, quoting a Government decision on the conscription plan.

The conscription plan provides that 800 recruits will be drafted into the National Army, while 400 into the Carabineer Troops.

The gradual reduction in the number of conscript soldiers forms part of the plan to abandon mandatory military service as of 2021 and to employ service members on a contract basis.
