The number of persons who get infected with pandemic influenza has decreased, it was announced at Monday's meeting of the Chisinau services and divisions, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the acting head of the Health Division Luminita Suveica, for the first time in the municipality of Chisinau there was recorded a decrease in the number of persons experiencing pandemic flu-like symptoms who contacted the doctor. 4,500 of the 7,128 persons infected with pandemic flu recovered. Six persons have died.
“A number of 1,400 persons consulted the family doctor last week. 400 of them have been hospitalized,” said Luminita Suveica. “The decrease is mainly due to the preventive measures taken, including the banning of mass rallies and temporary closure of a number of education institutions.”
According to the Preventive Medicine Center, the number of Chisinau residents suffering from pneumonia also decreased, from 60-70 cases a week to 9-10 cases a week. About 77 beds are now available in the local hospitals.
The vaccination against pandemic flu goes slowly. Only 3,044 persons of 50,000 have been immunized during several weeks. Though the vaccine produced no side effects, it is rather difficult to convince the population to take the vaccine.
