The attendance rate at the schools in Chisinau fell by another 2% last week owing to the severe frost, the head of the Chisinau Division for Education, Youth and Sport Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb said Monday, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. Last week, the classes in nine schools were shortened. On Monday, the education process was resumed without changes. “The absences in the first-twelfth grades represented 10%. Of them, 4% were on health grounds, 5% for personal reasons, while 1% were groundless absences,” said Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb. In kindergartens, where 35% of the children do not attend, the groups with a lower number of children were merged. Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said the Division should do its utmost to maintain the state of affairs. “It is a difficult situation given the low temperatures outside. But this should be a test for us. In the given situation, the institutions must be functional,” he stated. Last week, there were recorded over 2 100 cases of viral infections. Seventy-three persons were hospitalized, 69 of whom children.
