February was proclaimed the Month of Afghanistan War Veterans on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the pullout of the troops from this country, on February 15. A bill to this effect, submitted by Communist MP Mihail Mocan, was passed by Parliament, IPN reports.
The Government will approve the national program of activities for next February. The Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Youth and Sport will organize commemorative, educative and sports events dedicated to veterans of the Afghan war.
Initially, the bill author proposed that 2014 should be declared the Year of Participants in Military Conflicts in Other States, but the competent commission said that 2014 is the Year of Dumitru Matcovschi.
