FDI in Moldova amounted to $1.5b

As of the end of H1 2007, total foreign direct investment (FDI) in Moldova’s economy stood at about $1.5 billion, with $1.09 billion of it constituting investment in fixed capital.
In H1 2007, FDI amounted to $200.5 million, almost twice the level of FDI in the corresponding period last year.
Funds invested by foreigners represented 18.1 pct of the total investment in fixed capital. The inflow of investment into fixed capital in first half this year saw a 38.4 pct rise as compared to the similar period last year. Chisinau City accounted for two-thirds of the total.
FDI was mainly directed to construction projects (except home building), which represented 39.1 pct of the total, up by 6.5 p.p. from H1 2006.
At the same time, the share of investment in vehicle, equipment, and machinery decreased by 5.1 p.p. to 36.1 pct. Investment in home building reduced by 1.2 p.p. to 23.2 pct of the total.
