The fate of the economic courts will be decided in the February 23 sitting of Parliament. As the relevant commission today took no decision over the proposals concerning the powers of the economic courts, submitted by the Liberal Party and the Ministry of Justice, a new meeting of the commission will be held half an hour before tomorrow’s sitting, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Liberal Party suggested reducing the powers of the economic courts and transferring the economic cases to common law courts, while the Ministry of Justice proposed naming the economic courts as commercial courts and liquidating the Economic Court of Appeals. The commercial courts will examine the arbitral challenges and issue forced implementation decisions and decisions on the reorganization of the legal entities. Other economic cases will be sent to common law courts, while the appeals will be examined by the Chisinau Court of Appeals. In the meeting of the commission, judge of the Supreme Court of Justice Constantin Gurschi and member of the Supreme Council of Magistrates Anatoli Turcan said that the community of judges considers the two proposals should be merged and is in favor of liquidating the Economic Court of Appeals.
