The price of farmland is going up. In some of the settlements, the prices even doubled over a year, stated the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry. “In some parts of the country, the farmland was sold for 200,000 lei per hectare, but there are plots that cost 6,000 lei. The price of land will yet grow. When we enter the EU, a hectare of farmland will be very expensive,” Vasile Bumacov said in a meeting of the Chisinau Press Club, Info-Prim Neo reports. He also said that though the sale of farmland to foreign persons or companies is banned in Moldova, deals of the kind are made through resident persons, using different schemes. Asked if there are Moldovans who own many hectares of farmland, Vasile Bumacov stressed that he knows an entrepreneur who has 20 hectares of land, which is a significant area for Moldova, but he did not give names. In Moldova there are 1.7 million hectares of farmland, 40,000 of which are under state ownership, while the rest are privately owned.
