The framers took to the streets with agricultural machinery. According to representatives of the Association “Force of Farmers”, they blocked a part of the national roads for short periods of time.
“The farmers from all the districts, with small exceptions, joined in. They came with about 530 units of agricultural machinery. After about 2 hours, roads were blocked in some places. For example, in Hâncești there was blocked the Leușeni customs post, while in Căușeni – the Căușeni-Ștefan Vodă road,” the executive director of the Association “Force of Farmers” Alexandru Slusari has told IPN.
In connection with farmers’ protests, the Government’s spokesman Daniel Vodă said that the executive reacts with a lot of attention to the transmitted demands and Premier Dorin Recean and Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea had discussions with representatives of the Association “Force of Farmers”.
“Evidently, the farmers want more subsidies and higher prices, but the Government represents the whole society, including the consumers who want smaller prices and the small and medium-sized farmers who also want to have access to high-quality subsidies. Consequently, the Government remains open to discussions with representatives from this sector. We wait for very clearly formulated demands,” stated Daniel Vodă.
In reply, Alexandru Slusari said that five demands were very clearly formulated. These are: to provide compensation for the production costs incurred by small and medium-sized farmers, in the amount of at least 3,000 lei per ha of crops of the first group, such as wheat, barley and rapeseed, by August 1, 2023, to temporarily restrict the import of wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower sees into Moldova from Ukraine by a decision of the Commission for Exceptional Situations, to clear all the overdue subsidies for 2022 until July 1, 2023.
According to him, they requested the Prime Minister to sign a memorandum with at least four of the five demands, by indicating concrete fulfillment time limits.
