Farmers’ organizations have announced that they will picket the Government Building if several of their demands are not fulfilled. In a news conference, representatives of the organizations asked publishing the national agriculture development strategy in the Official Gazette in two weeks and approving the changes to the regulations governing the oil market. The farmers intend to stage a protest on May 28, IPN reports.
Chairman of the National Farmers Federation Valeriu Cosarciuc said the Government approved the strategy on March 12, but it hasn’t yet come into force. After the approval of the strategy by the executive, the document was to be signed by three ministries, but the Ministry of Economy hasn’t yet put its signature. Such a situation is due to the fact that certain goals are pursued as regards the distribution of the European funds.
Alexandru Slusari, chairman of the National Union of Agricultural Producers’ Associations “UniAgroProtect”, said the farmers during three years requested the government to work out and adopt methodology for assessing the prices of the imported oil products. They also asked annulling the requirements for the oil market operators concerning the size of the registered capital and the minimum size of the oil store. The state should adopt methodology for enabling the farmers to directly import diesel fuel for agricultural purposes. During the last three years, the government fulfilled none of their demands.
Alexandru Slusari also said that the farmers’ organizations this March asked for a meeting with Prime Minister Iurie Leanca, but their request remained without an answer. Thus, the farmers decided to resort to protests if Minister of Economy Valeriu Lazar does not sign the strategy and if the Government does not approve the changes concerning the regulation of the oil market.
