The farmers from Dubasari district protested peacefully in the morning of June 6 to draw the authorities’ attention to their difficult situation. During many years, they have been unable to cultivate their farmland that is located on the territory controlled by the Transnistrian administration. The protesters adopted a resolution that they will submit to the constitutional authorities, embassies working in Moldova, the OSCE and the Delegation of the EU. If nothing is done during 30 days, they will stage protests in Chisinau.

Contacted by IPN, Petru Nirca, farmer from Cocieri, said the state should become involved and support the economic entities that are close to bankruptcy. A national program is needed to keep the businesses and the workplaces.

“All the companies in Cocieri and Dorotskaya that have 95% of their farmland situated beyond the Rybnitsa – Tiraspol route are close to bankruptcy. They promised we will be able to set up hothouses and orchards, to employ a large number of people, but nothing was done. We need financial resources, preferential loans. We need support,” he stated, noting that the farmers want to be heard.

The farmers do not have access to 6,500 hectares of farmland located beyond the Rybnitsa – Tiraspol route on which the Transnistrian administration asks for rental.
