The Farmers' Force Association is calling for the resignation of the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, Vladimir Bolea, and the urgent adoption of effective measures to save the agricultural sector which, farmers say, ensures the country's food security and hundreds of thousands of jobs in rural areas, IPN reports.

In a letter addressed to the Presidency, Parliament and the Government, the Farmers' Force demands the resignation of the Minister of Agriculture because, they say, "through his incompetence and attitude, he has not listened to and has not taken into consideration the proposals of small and medium-sized farmers, on the verge of bankruptcy, for the recovery of the situation, on the contrary, through his actions he has shown that he is defending the interests of off-shore and foreign agro-holdings, to the detriment of the national interest and the local producer."

According to the farmers, proof of this are the measures adopted very late last year, which enriched the grain and oilseed exporting monopolies, and recently the latest measure announced by Vladimir Bolea was the intention to introduce per-hectare subsidization from 2025 only for sugar beet producers, the final beneficiary of this money being a monopoly company, managed by a former prime minister from the Plahotniuc-Dodon regime. Likewise, the farmers demand the revision of the legislative framework for the adoption of effective urgent measures to save the agricultural sector, including the amendment of Law 240 of September 13, 2024, on some support measures for farmers in relation to the drought of 2024.

In the letter, the Farmers' Force argues that the deplorable condition of farmers who provide the most important crops that are related to the country's food security: wheat, corn and sunflowers is worsening day by day. The financial support announced by the government is long overdue, and the legislative measure drafted without farmers and forced through by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry is ineffective.

"Farmers are being foreclosed on a conveyor belt and are receiving notices of commencement of foreclosure and insolvency proceedings from creditors. The collapse of the agricultural sector, particularly farmers, who process 80% of the agricultural land and ensure food security for citizens, is imminent unless radical measures are taken urgently," the farmers' letter, addressed to the main state institutions, said.

"Farmers' Force" urges other associations to support the demand for the resignation of Minister Vladimir Bolea.
