Farmers are reiterating their demand for a law that provides compensation for agricultural losses. This year’s drought has left many with a compromised harvest, but the impact is still difficult to estimate. Valeriu Cosarciuc, president of the National Federation of Farmers, says that there is no clear information about the state of corn, sunflower and other crops. Compensation for losses will allow farmers to start the new agricultural cycle and find prospects for the next year.

Farmers need the postponement of payments to creditors, tax facilities and compensation, said Alexandru Slusari, executive director of the Farmers’ Force Association, at a joint meeting of the boards of the National Federation of Farmers, the Farmers Force and Moldova Fruct Association. According to Slusari, the farmers are dissatisfied with the suspension of the state of emergency in agriculture.

Vasile Mîrzenco, executive director of the National Federation of Farmers, addressed the Minister of Agriculture and the Food Industry, saying that “many of the farmers will not be able to do agricultural work in the fall and then the consequences will be even worse”.

In July, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry mentioned that it will request the Emergency Situations Commission to establish a state of emergency in agriculture. The announcement was made by Minister Vladimir Bolea, according to whom the establishment of the exceptional situation was needed in light of this year’s severe drought.
