The farmers continue to protest in front of the Parliament Building. They ask compensations for the losses sustained as a result of the drought and request to abandon the intention to raise the VAT rate in agriculture from 8% to 12%. Police officers sounded the building. This time the protesters were supporters by carriers that formed a column of cars on Ștefan cel Mare și Sfânt Blvd in solidarity, IPN reports.

Oleg Alexa, chairman of the Board of the Employers Association of Road Transport Operators, said the carriers support the protesters. The rulers say the adopted laws are intended for the people, but this is manipulation. The MPs maintain that the demands submitted by farmers are problems that should be solved independently. The carriers also have demands and one of them is to annul the road tax at least for the pandemic year.

According to Vasile Myrzenko, executive director of the National Farmers Federation, the people should understand that if the farmers are not supported, the consequences will affect everyone, especially those in need, as the prices of agricultural products will rise. He called on the protesters not to give up and to remain calm.

A protester from Râșcani said it is painful to see what’s happening to the farmers. She is a small producer and invested everything she had in her business. She remained with the last 800 lei with which she has to maintain a student and a teenager. She has to repay the loans she raised to buy seeds and they hope to cope only with the earnings of her husband who works abroad as the state offered nothing to them.

The farmers noted that they didn’t destroy the stairs of the Parliament Building when they mounted them with tractors and no police officer was hurt. The assertions disseminated in the public sphere are misleading. On the contrary, they are intimidated. The vehicle of a protester from Căușeni was set on fire.

The General Inspectorate for Emergencies confirmed that a motor vehicle parked at the bus station in Căușeni town caught fire in the morning of December 18. The firefighters extinguished the fire during about half an hour. No person was hurt. A minibus parked nearby was partially damaged.

The protesters said they are waiting for solutions to their demands from MPs.
