Farmers on Friday blocked again the access road to the Leușeni border crossing point. The Border Police and the Customs Service said that vehicle traffic was stopped due to the protests mounted by farmers, IPN reports.

Travelers are advised to opt in advance for the available alternatives, such as the Sculeni, Costești or Leova-Bumbăta border crossing points (working hours 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.).

Farmers began to protest last week. They say they are on the verge of bankruptcy and demand that Vladimir Bolea should resign from the post of minister of agriculture and food industry.

On Thursday, Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, announced that farmers affected by last summer’s drought can submit applications to the Agency for Intervention and Payments in Agriculture to get compensation. It was estimated that about 400 farmers will receive financial aid.

Today, starting at 1 p.m., a meeting with farmers will be held at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry to discuss the current challenges experienced in the agricultural sector. The meeting is expected to be attended by Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea and Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
