The tariff for interurban trips will most probably be raised to 0.70 lei per km, while that for inter-district trips to 0.80 lei. A final decision will be announced at the start of next week. Following discussions with the authorities today, the carriers announced that the critical point was overcome and the protests are over, IPN reports.
The meeting with representatives of carriers was held behind closed doors. After it, Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spînu said that this is the last stage in the decision-making process. The authorities informed the carriers about the intention to reform the sector and discussed the tariffs in the context of fuel price rises. The final decision will be announced in a news conference next Tuesday.
The chairman of the Employers Association of Road Transport Operators Oleg Alexa said the discussion was constructive and sufficient steps were taken towards the carriers. They are to be issued with the draft order next Monday. Preliminarily, it was proposed that the tariff for interurban trips should rise from 0.60 lei to 0.70 lei per km, while the tariff for inter-district trips – from 0.60 lei to 0.80 lei.
Carriers mounted protests during three days this week, suspending most of the regulator passenger transportation routes in the country.
