The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations will soon have a representative office in Moldova, IPN reports, quoting a decision on the initiation of talks on a relevant draft agreement with the FAO, approved by the Government.

The creation of the representative office will contribute to the extension of the organization’s activities and to the improvement of the cooperation between FAO and Moldova in agriculture and rural development. FAO implemented five projects in Moldova, aimed at increasing the capacities to eliminate dangerous chemicals from the former Soviet area, developing the seeds sector, providing assistance in taking the general agricultural census in Moldova, facilitating the Technical Cooperation Program and the Information Systems Program with a view to improving the decisions in the food security sector.

Founded in 1945, FAO is a specialized UN agency working to alleviate poverty and hunger by promoting agricultural development, improved nutrition and the pursuit of food security. Moldova joined FAO in 1995.
