Famous economist Leszek Balcerowicz to visit Moldova

Leszek Balcerowicz, famous economist and one of the few politicians in Eastern Europe whose major achievements are recognized all over the world, will pay his first visit to Moldova on November 6-7, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Academy of Sciences of Moldova.
During the working visit, the Polish guest will take part in roundtable meetings and have meetings with senior officials and representatives of the scientific community. On this occasion, the professor will be conferred the title of Doctor Honoris Cauza of the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova.
The professor will deliver a lecture themed “The financial crisis and post-crisis scenarios” at the Academy of Sciences, and will participate in a roundtable meeting on the post-socialist transformations in a comparative perspective, which is organized in concert with the Academy's Institute of Economy, Finance and Statistics.
Leszek Balcerowicz, 63, was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance in the first non-Communist Government of Poland headed by Tadeusz Mazowiecki. In 1981-1982, he had served as deputy chairman of the Polish Economic Society. He is famous for implementing the Polish economic transformation program, commonly known as shock therapy in the 1990s.
In 1998, Leszek Balcerowicz was named the Minister of Finance of the Year. In 1999, he received the Transatlantic Leadership Awards Prize as the most famous European of the year. He holds the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of Aix-en-Provence University, Sussex University, De Paul University of Chicago, Szczecin and Torun Universities of Staffordshire, Abertay Dundee University, J. Stern Economics University of Bratislava, ”A.I. Cuza” University of Iasi, Babes-Bolyai University of Cluj Napoca.
The Polish economist will visit Moldova at the invitation of the Academy of Sciences and Prime Minister Vlad Filat.
