All the Government’s measures aimed at supporting the children and families with children are available on a website that was launched by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection. These form part of the “Family” program whose goal is to ensure better social protection for children from all the social categories, to extend the services intended for children in difficulty and to support the young families with new child care and development options, IPN reports.

“We know how hard it is to raise a child, how much effort needs to be made and how many resources are necessary for this. That’s why it is essential to stand by young families from the very beginning, since a child is born in the family. The child is at the core of the new social policies on social protection. The measures we announce today are aimed at ensuring better social protection for children from the social categories, extending the services intended for children in difficulty and supporting the young families with new child care and development options,” Minister of Labor and Social Protection Marcel Spatari told a news conference.

The minister reminded that a new child benefit payment option became available on September 1, 2022 – the payment of 90% of the income during 12 months of the provision of the childcare leave. The other child benefit payment options remain in force.

According to the minister, about 25,000 children will benefit from an allowance of up to 4,000 lei paid to prevent the separation of children from parents as from this September. The financial support is offered to families for creating appropriate conditions for the growth of the child, for looking after the sick child and treating this or for preventing any risk situation that can lead to the separation of children from parents.

As from October 1, all he children will be entitled to a child allowance of 1,000 lei a month that will be paid until they turn two, while the monthly support allowance intended for twins and more children born at once will rise from 370 lei to 500 lei per child.

Marcel Spatari said they are working on regulations that enable to create mini crèches of family type designed for children from the age of four months, for at most five children. The relevant legal framework is to take effect at the beginning of 2023. At the initial stage, the authorities plan to provide allowances to these families by ensuring stricter monitoring. Employers will also be encouraged to set up crèches within companies intended for employees’ children.
