The family of meerkats or suircates living at the Zoological Garden in Chisinau expanded by two cubs two weeks ago. Their sex is not known yet. They will open their eyes in over two weeks.

A pair of meerkats was brought to Moldova for the first time last year, from Tallinn. The fact that the animals started to reproduce shows that they adjusted themselves to the new conditions, the zoo’s scientific secretary Olga Iuzvac has told IPN.

The family of mouflons grew bigger by a female and three males. The mouflons live in groups. There are now six females and six males. The family is expected to expand further soon.

A cub was also born in the family of kangaroos. It stays in the mother’s pouch and will get out when it is three or four months. This is the third kangaroo born at the Zoological Garden in Chisinau.

There are 897 animals of over 150 species at the Chisinau zoo at present.
