Family Justice Center to be created in Moldova

A Family Justice Center will be founded in the Republic of Moldova, Minister of Health, Labor and Social Protection Viorica Dumbrăveanu has informed through her Facebook page. The Center will assist the victims of domestic violence and can became a reality owing to the involvement of all the players operating in the field and also to the support provided by the U.S. Embassy in Moldova, IPN reports.

According to the minister, “the center’s role will be to concentrate specialists from different areas, such as the justice sector, the police, social assistance and probation, who will offer complex assistance to victims of domestic violence. The development of the service will consolidate the system for preventing and combating domestic violence that regrettably persists in the Republic of Moldova.”

The United Sates’ experience in developing such centers and the actions that should be taken by the Republic of Moldova to conceptualize the new service will be discussed during two days by national specialists and experts from the U.S.

As many as 678 cases of domestic violence have been reported in Moldova so far this year. In Moldova, there are 13 specialized centers that provide services to victims of domestic violence and four centers for counseling domestic aggressors – a public institution and three centers managed by NGOs.
