Family Day will be marked on May 15

The Government approved a legislative initiative to celebrate the Family Day on May 15 and related amendments to the Parliament's decision on holidays and nonworking days, Info-Prim Neo reports. Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family Valentina Buliga said the main objective of this holiday is to underline the importance of the family in the society and promote such values as equality, sharing of responsibilities in the family, love, respect, combating of all forms of violence against women, children and elderly persons. According to statistical data, almost each second marriage in Moldova ends in divorce. In 2009, there were registered 26,000 marriages and about 12,000 divorces. Each fourth child is born outside marriage. The statistics about abandoned children and elderly persons have worsened.
