The recruiting target set by the Moldovan Armed Forces for November-December 2007 has been overachieved, Info-Prim Neo learned from the Ministry of Defence. According to Lt. Col. Eduard Ohladciuc, in the reporting period, the number of persons enrolled into compulsory military service amounted to 3,084, which represents 101.6% of the conscription target. The fresh enrolment has been distributed as follows: 1,421 recruits (102.6 %) went to serve in the National Army – 1421; 800 (100 %) in the Border Guards Service; and 863 (101.5%) in the Carabineer Troops. The most successful district recruitment centres were Cimislia, Rezina, Soldanesti, Straseni, Orhei, Criuleni, Anenii Noi, Soroca, and Causeni. At the same time, the recruitment centres that missed the established target were Edinet (by 44.3%), Glodeni (by 38.1%), Cantemir (by 9.5%), Leova (by 9.1%) and Chisinau (by 7%). Disciplinary sanctions were imposed on the commanders and a number of staffers of these recruitment centres. Compulsory military service in Moldova lasts for one year.
