Hundreds of Christians went to the God’s Birth Cathedral in Chisinau to take holy water on January 19. The Christians said the holy water helps them to wash away the diseases and evil and brings kindness and calmness in their homes. On Epiphany, the Christians went to Church to light a candle and pray for health, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“I took holy water to bless the house and give the children to drink. During the year, we will drink holy water when we get sick,” said Maria Ciobanu from Falesti. The woman goes to church every year to take holy water.
Ana Policova said that her son was born not long before Epiphany. “I come to church two times – on the eve of Epiphany and on this day. On the eve of this day, I pray for health, peace and happiness. On Epiphany, I come to take holy water. I drink it on holidays so as to be healthy,” said the woman.
“Today is one of the holiest days. It is a day when we pray for peace and health. My parents taught me to go to church and I now teach my children to do the same,” said Pelaghia Mihai.
Ion Crudu attended the service held in the morning and prayed for the people’s welfare. He took his granddaughter with him to teach her the Christian traditions.
On January 19, the Christians following the Julian calendar celebrate Epiphany or the baptism of Jesus Christ. The people believe that the water taken on this day from church is healing.
