The women do not actively become involved in the socioeconomic life of the country because of the low level of self-confidence, poor knowledge of their rights and reduced access to information. However, the women have a great potential, while the human capital is the most important one in the economic life of a state. Therefore, the Moldovan authorities should promote policies to support women in business. The issue was discussed in the national conference “Successful experiences of women entrepreneurs” that was held in Chisinau, IPN reports.
In the opening of the event, director general of the Organization for the Development of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Iulia Iabanji said the women should not complain that they are discriminated, but should show by deeds how powerful they are. The authorities and the women entrepreneurs can submit proposals for motivating other women to take a more active part in the public life and to run for public posts more often.
According to Iulia Iabanji, among the factors that hinder the women from becoming more actively involved in the public life and in business are the differentiated employment opportunities as the men can easier get a job than the women. The women in Moldova want to be more active, but they must be assisted in this regard. For the purpose, there was created the National Women’s Platform of Moldova whose goal is to increase the visibility of women in the public life.
Lilia Palii, secretary of state at the Ministry of Economy, said the development of the women’s business sector plays a very important role in any economy and surely the women have a say in the development of the small and medium-sized enterprises. At international level, it was proven that the women invest more than the men, especially in social projects.
The conference was also attended by Olga Tapiola, the wife of the EU Ambassador to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola. She said that she is a psychologist by profession and that she communicated with many women in Moldova. In the discussions, she realized that the women want to be more active, but need support so that they become more confident in their own forces.
The profile of the woman entrepreneur of Moldova was presented at the event. She is about 40, has higher education and has a family. She manages micro-enterprises started with own money.
