The facades of the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History, the National Palace “Nicolae Sulac” and the National Opera House “Maria Biesu” will be illuminated artistically. The project proposals were chosen as winners at the contest “Evening Chisinau – city of lights” that was staged by the Agency for Monument Inspection and Restoration.
The Agency’s director general Ion Stefanita, in a news conference at IPN on February 18, said the members of the jury, specialists from Romania, Ukraine and France, summed up the results on February 17. The contest involved 11 project proposals. Three of these were selected as winners and will be implemented in the course of this year. The planned budget is €550,000, while the prize money of the authors is €5,000.
Jury member Mihai Danciu said the projects that competed in the contest were of a high quality. Besides the three chosen projects, there were highlighted four projects that will be implemented in 2019 and 2020, after they are adjusted. These are the Chisinau City Hall, the Circus, the building of the former Rabbi Tsirilson Synagogue and the street Veronica Micle. A fundraising campaign will be announced for these.
According to Alexandru Buraga, the founder of the platform “Design Cafe & Club”, which is the partner of the contest, the winners will be awarded on March 3. All the participants will be invited to the ceremony. “There were presented works designed to give a fresh breath to Chisinau city. These were full of dedication, with innovative ideas, intended to transform Chisinau into a city of lights,” stated Alexandru Buraga.
Before being lit, the facades of the chosen buildings will be renovated. The goal of the contest is to develop nocturnal tourism, tourist attractions and the historical center of Chisinau city.
