The façade of the Chisinau City Hall has crumbled and pieces of the ornaments fell on the sidewalk. The local authorities said the façade hasn’t been repaired for over 20 years and are considering solutions for remedying the situation, IPN reports.

“We, together with colleagues from Romania, carried out a feasibility study of the restoration works. The replacement of the cover of the roof of the Chisinau City Hall was a first protection measure taken,” deputy mayor Nistor Grozavu said in the ordinary meeting of officials of Chisinau services and divisions.

Grozavu noted that the façade both from Vlaicu Parcalab St and from Stefan cel Mare Blvd. will be thoroughly examined and the required measures will be taken. If the decorative elements are in a serious state of degradation and could fall, they will be taken away by hand. If not, nets will be set up to prevent their fall.

The deputy mayor voiced hope that the façade will start to be restored next year as planned, despite the tight budget.
