The judges whose five-year trial period expired or will expire by April 1, 2022 will be named to hold the posts until they reach the age limit based on ordinary assessment that is carried out once in three years. Bided on an amendment supported by the Government, it is excluded the norm that makes the extraordinary assessment of judges mandatory, IPN reports.
According to Minister of Justice Sergiu Litvinenco, the goal is to synchronize the legal amendments to the constitutional provisions concerning the legal system that were made in 2021 and that will take effect in April 2022. The blockage created in the judicial system owing to the non-functionality of the Board for the Extraordinary Assessment of Judges since last October will be avoided.
As the Board was nonfunctional, about 60 judges whose five-year trial period expired or will expire by April 1, 2022 cannot be confirmed to posts to serve until they reach the age limit. The given bill will solve the problem.
The minister said the powers of the President of the Republic of Moldova concerning confirmation or non-conformation of judges with integrity problems are kept in accordance with the law.
