The European Action Movement (MAE), the National Liberal Party (PNL), the Conservative Party (PC) and the National Romanian Party (PNR) are ready to campaign for any of the Democratic parliamentary parties whose lists will include politicians from the Opposition in order to contribute to the removal of the Communists from power, said the participants in a debate meeting held by the MAE on June 8, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to [the MAE president Anatol Petrencu], the parliamentary Opposition’s appeal to the extra-parliamentary parties not to take part in elections is unreasonable. “We consider we must look for possibilities of joining all the forces in these elections. We back the idea of a joint list that was widely spread last summer.
“The Opposition parliamentary parties should say how they want us to support them. We have local organizations and possibilities that we could use for a common goal. If an agreement is reached, the MAE is ready to campaign for a parliamentary party,” Petrencu said.
[The leader of the PNL Vitalia Pavlicenco] said that her party will run independently in elections if that joint list is not drawn up. “On May 9, we had the Congress of the PNL where I became the party’s president again. We are ready for dialogue. The law on parties obliges us to participate in these elections (if a party does not take part in two consecutive elections, it is excluded from the list of political organizations – e.n.). If we do not find a solution for a fair merger so that out local teams do not lose ground for the local elections we will have to run in elections separately,” Pavlicenco said.
If a joint list is made, the PNL could delegate representatives to be included in the list of one of the three Opposition parliamentary parties and support the given party. “Another solution is to merge now so that we have guarantees that our representatives will not be removed at the early elections and at the local elections and we could start work and gather votes. We could also not delegate representatives, but only support an Opposition parliamentary party and have an agreement to merge with this party,” the PNL leader added.
The PC also supports the idea of a joint list in the early elections. “The ballots should include two election runners: the PCRM and an Opposition party. In such a case, the PC will work to mobilize the voters, said [the president of the PC Natalia Nirca]. She also said that the joint list should include the 41 Opposition MPs and members of the political organizations that will back this idea.
According to [the president of the National Romanian Party Constantin Mitache], in order to overthrow the Communists, the forces should be joined and the people should be convinced because the society is confused and does not understand that they vote against their grandchildren. “We will not participate in elections separately as we might not pass the election threshold and would give a part of our votes to those that are not our friends. We will support one of the three stronger parties so that they win more votes. The PNR will most probably support the Liberal Party,” Mitache said.
The four political organizations attending the meeting said that they receive no proposal from the parliamentary Opposition yet.
