Expo of corruption-related materials in Chisinau

Photos, letters and press articles on corruption created by journalists from Ziarul de Garda have been varnished at Constantin Brancusi Expo Center from Chisinau. The materials were realized in a project on fighting corruption, supported by the Academy for Educational Development, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Ziarul de Garda has had meetings with its readers in 18 districts and Chisinau. The people have been encouraged to report on corruption cases they know and about their relation with the public authorities,” said editor-in-chief Aneta Grosu. Since March, Ziarul de Garda's reporters covered over 8,000 km in Moldova talking to peasants, professors, doctors, sellers, unemployed, students and retirees. The discussed about bribes, social problems in their localities, ways to fight corruption. “The Government, ministries and local public authorities have received hundreds of letters from investigative reporters asking for more access to information of public interest,” Aneta Grosu said. The most active anti-corruption promoters were awarded at Constantin Brancusi expo center: lawyers, doctors, public servants, farmers, politicians and active citizens who reported corruption cases to the newspaper. The project is part of the Strengthening Civil Society Monitoring Capacity in Moldova (SCSMCM) Program, implemented by the Academy for Educational Development (AED) with the technical assistance granted by IREX. The program is funded by the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and run by the USAID within the Country Threshold Program for Moldova. The general purpose of the program is to consolidate the monitoring capacity and advocacy of NGOs and media pursuing to prevent and fight the phenomenon corruption in Moldova.
