Over 17,000 sweet rolls past their expiration dates, placed in over 15,000 bags by all appearances destined for voters, were found by the police in a warehouse in Durlesti, a suburb of Chisinau.
According to the General Police Inspectorate, “the gifts were prepared to be sent to people for the purpose of electoral corruption”. A criminal investigation has been initiated.
The expired rolls were accompanied by leaflets with greetings from “the leader of a criminal group”, the police said.
On Tuesday, the police found in the car of an activist 36,000 euros and 13 boxes with campaign leaflets with the brand of an unnamed “political bloc” and portraying the same “leader of a criminal group”. The driver and his passenger could not explain the origin of the money.
