Moldova should increase its participation in the activities and programmes implemented by NATO, concluded the participants of the “Role of NATO in Reducing Economic Risks” Scientific Conference, held on Friday in the quarters of the Information and Documentation Centre on NATO from Moldova. According to a press-release from the organisers, quoted by Info-Prim Neo, the experts asserted that this fact could provide real prerequisites for Moldova’s integration and active participation in the North-Atlantic Alliance. Alexandru Gribincea, the head of the Moldova State University Marketing Department, emphasised upon the necessity to operate several researches in the area. At the same time, the speaker concluded that given the fact that NATO implies stability and security, we can observe that the accession of new states from Central and South-Eastern Europe had contributed to the increase of foreign investments in their economies leading to a higher development level. As part of the event, experts in economy and politics as well as representatives of higher educational institutions and specialised NGOs presented their reports. They referred to the possibility to diminish the instability in the region’s countries and to guaranteeing political and economic freedom through the development of collaboration with NATO. Thus, the econometric calculus operated by University Professor Maximilian Silvestru, on the basis of the Keynesian theory, helped to ascertain the fact that if there was no NATO, the GDP of the member-states would reduce by 15% and the world GDP – by 9.3%. The expert says that NATO contributes to the development of the intellectual potential in the region, by concentrating specialists in high technologies in the member-states. He added that NATO is a generator of security and innovation, operating as a multiplier of economic growth in the Euro-Atlantic area. The event was organised by the NATO Information and Documentation Centre from Moldova in cooperation with the Moldova State University Marketing Department and the Free International University of Moldova. The purpose of the conference was to launch discussions on the economic aspect of the security and to estimate the role of the North-Atlantic Alliance in reducing instability and economic risks. During the two meetings, participants pointed out the role of NATO in ensuring an adequate level of security and political stability in the region, as well as its essential contribution to diminishing risks related to economic and investment security.
