Some opinion leaders consider Ion Sturza is a good candidate for premiership, while others assert this plays the secret games of influent persons. The issue was developed in the talk show “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.

Ion Dron, chairman of the Center of Initiatives and Public Authorities Monitoring, considers Ion Sturza promotes the interests of particular persons. “The struggle now is not between parties, but between two large camps: the Platform “Dignity and Truth” that is supported by the PLDM and Plahotniuc who is supported by the PDM and other parties. Sturza is the representative of the first camp that was joined by President Nicolae Timofti. This should come in Parliament and say who namely blackmails him and if his son is really involved in a criminal case. When a head of state acts in collusion with a particular camp, he must answer for this. I don’t know Ion Sturza personally, but the statements made by this before and after his nomination for Prime Minister lack credibility,” he stated.

Corneliu Ciurea, expert of the Institute for Development and Social Initiatives “Viitorul”, considers Ion Sturza can have the same faith as Iurie Leanca, who was fielded for Prime Minister, but could not secure support in Parliament. “It’s clear that now the struggle is between the President and the PDM. Sturza appeared in a somehow strange way. He could repeat the faith of Iurie Leanca. The PDM will not support him because this party banks on its own candidate. Ion Sturza is facing a challenge. He will have to find people in Parliament who will vote him. There are all kinds of marionettes in this country, which are controlled from behind. I think Sturza is also controlled by somebody. I cannot explain his appearance otherwise,” he said.

Anatol Taranu, director of the Center for Political Research and Consultancy “Politicon”, thinks the appearance of Ion Sturza signals a change on the Moldovan political arena. “A construction like the Alliance for European Integration used up its potential. We need a change. Ion Sturza comes to announce this change, even if from the perspective of early elections. Maybe he has some sins, but Sturza is a good manager, a personality and an accomplished man,” he stated.
