The complex of buildings belonging to "Evrika" Theoretical High School in Rîbnița, unused since 2004 due to restricted access by Tiraspol, was visited by education experts from both Chisinau and Tiraspol. The buildings are set to be renovated and put back into use as an infrastructure facility under the administration of "Evrika" Theoretical High School, IPN reports.
According to a press release from the Bureau for Reintegration Policies, the visit included a general/preliminary assessment of the current state of the buildings and the surrounding land. Based on this evaluation, potential intervention measures will be identified to resume and complete the renovation works and officially put the buildings into operation.
The Bureau stated that the experts from Chisinau welcomed Tiraspol's openness and noted that once written confirmation is received regarding the educational use of the premises, technical specialists could conduct working visits to carry out the necessary assessments and initiate the required renovations.
Previously, representatives of the Bureau for Reintegration Policies reported that "Evrika" High School currently operates in a rented kindergarten building. At the beginning of the school year, the high school had 203 students enrolled and employed 54 staff members, including 26 teachers and 28 auxiliary personnel.
The issue regarding the school's premises dates back to 2004, following abusive measures taken by Tiraspol’s security structures. At that time, the building on Gagarin Street No. 14 in Ribnita, where Moldova’s constitutional authorities had invested over 12 million lei from the state budget, was forcibly seized and has since been prohibited from being used for educational purposes, the source states.
Solving the issue of the high school’s premises in Ribnita is one of the conditions imposed by Chisinau on Tiraspol in exchange for the transit of gas to the Transnistrian region. Prime Minister Dorin Recean has requested that Tiraspol take several actions to demonstrate its willingness to cooperate, including the release of political prisoners, resolving the high school’s premises issue, maintaining Moldova’s public television in the broadcasting grid, and removing the 33 control posts installed in 2022 (of which 11 are still active).
