In switching from analogous to digital TV, international experts recommend Moldova to take into consideration the people's and the broadcasters interests. Katrin Nyman-Metcalf, a Latvian broadcasting expert, has told a relevant seminar in Chisinau on Tuesday the state must help the entire society, especially the poor people, to adjust to the coming modifications, since the digital TV will need special equipment.
Broadcasting authorities say there are a series of advantages for the digital television. Implementing it will solve for ever the TV channel problem, as it will not be necessary to hold harsh contests to get the frequencies, Victor Pulbere, a direction chief of the Moldovan Broadcasting Regulator (BCC), has told Info-Prim Neo.
The digital TV is an innovating way of broadcasting by air, transmitting bits to antennas, just like a computer. It enables the TV sets to show clearer pictures, to sound better and to have more program operations, experts say.
People willing to switch to the digital TV will need an adapter to transform the digital signal into an analog one for the analog TV sets. It costs some $100 now.
The investments in this area are expected to skyrocket this year, what will stimulate competition and will diversify the offers. According to the BCC chairman, Gheorghe Gorincioi, switching to the digital TV is going to end by 2015 in Moldova. Them, the analogous TV will cease.
The investments in developing broadcasts airing and re-transmission services rose to 42.5 million lei in 2007, compared with 2006 in Moldova. From which, 36.6 million lei was invested in TV services and 5.9 million lei – in radio. The number of cable users increased by 22.8 % and exceeded 163,000. According to estimations made by broadcasters, the request for cable services goes past 310,000 potential users.
Earlier in 2008, 232 broadcasters were recorded in Moldova.
