The Moldovan authorities made no progress in resolving the Transnistrian dispute for over 20 years. Meanwhile, Transnistria obtained all the forms of a state, with the only exception that it is not recognized internationally. Such opinions were stated by experts from Chisinau in the program “Fabrika” on “Publika TV”.

Ion Leahu, who earlier represented Chisinau in the Joint Control Commission, said the Moldovan authorities only made concessions to the Transnistrian regime, while Tiraspol blackmailed and continues to blackmail. “All the ex-Presidents of Moldova made concessions to Tiraspol, which led to the strengthening of a secessionist state. The signing of a protocol by ex-President Snegur and the separatist leader Igor Smirnov was the first step in this chain. It enabled Tiraspol to have state symbols: flag, coat and anthem,” he stated.

As to the threats that Transnistria will no longer take part in the “5+2” format talks, made by the political representative of Tiraspol Nina Shtanski in Chisinau, Leahu said it is inadmissible for a political nonentity to threaten a system that includes some of the greatest world powers. Shtanski should be ignored.

As regards the “5+2” format, the Moldovan experts said it is inefficient. According to lecturer Pavel Midrigan, these talks made no headway in Chisinau’s favor, while the Moldovan authorities are waiting for somebody else to solve their problems.

Constitutional law expert Nicolae Osmochescu said the Government of Moldova should more seriously become involved in the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict and should stop making concessions to Tiraspol.

IDIS-Viitorul expert Corneliu Ciurea stated that Tiraspol continues to play with Chisinau and behaves like a state when it wants, like in the case of the arrest of the director of the Latin-script Transnistrian lyceum, and washes its hands when it needs to assume economic obligations, like paying excise duties.

All those attending the program said Tiraspol faces no blockade on the part of Ukraine and Moldova, this situation being invented by the Russian authorities in order to be able to explain the promotion of their interests in Moldova’s separatist region.
