Political experts anticipate the Constitutional Court will rule in favor of President Maia Sandu. According to commentators, the CC judges will decide in favor of dissolving Parliament and calling of snap parliamentary elections. However, the experts consider President Sandu made a mistake when she banked exclusively on snap elections, rejecting the idea of investing a pro-European Government for a determined period of time, IPN reports.

Expert Anatol Țăranu criticizes President Sandu’s strategy to insists on calling snap parliamentary elections without taking into account the pandemic and economic situation in the country and the necessity of investing a Government with plenipotentiary powers that would have handled the crisis.

“The strategy for obtaining the dissolution of Parliament was mistaken. A struggle for the Government should have been given first and the procedure for triggering snap elections should have been launched later. The Government, in the current situation in the Republic of Moldova, plays a crucial role. The one who possesses the governmental instruments controls the political process. The mechanism for triggering snap elections was applied exclusively. If elections are held, they will take place in conditions that will be more unfavorable than if the Government would have been controlled by the PAS,” Anatol Țăranu stated in the talk show “Secrets of the Power” on Jurnal TV channel.

Political expert Roman Mihăieș considers a pro-European Government should have been invested before launching the procedure for dissolving Parliament. Any delay in holding snap elections is favorable to the Socialists.

“With a pro-European Government managed by a leader of the PPPDA or the PAS, the elections would have been held in much more favorable conditions. The snap elections are inevitable as we experience an institutional stalemate, but the date of elections is important. It is one thing to have elections in June and it is another thing to have elections in October,” stated Roman Mihăieș.

According to the Electoral Code, if Parliament is dissolved, by the same decree the President of the Republic of Moldova sets the date of parliamentary elections. Snap elections are held in at least 60 days, but not later than three months of the dissolution of Parliament.
