President-elect Maia Sandu will have very good bilateral cooperation with the Western countries, but difficulties could appear in the context of the relations with the Russian Federation. Even if she announced that it wants the relations between the two countries to be based on mutual respect and pragmatism, political analyst Cornel Ciurea considers this will not be possible as Maia Sandu represents the Western interests, IPN reports.

“Moscow expects concrete actions. Maia Sandu has good intentions, wants bilateral relations with Russia, which will not be very good, but will be at least acceptable. This will be very hard as she represents the Western interests and we now see that the West has a tendency of being in conflict with Russia,” Corel Ciurea stated in the program “Key Issue” on NTV Moldova channel.

According to the political analyst, the congratulation addressed by Vladimir Putin to Maia Sandu was reserved, which cannot be said about the other received congratulations.

“It’s evident that Maia Sandu cannot have problems with the European Union. The Western leaders are delighted. Many of them are glad that the person whom they support was elected President. They invested a lot and probably not money, but rather nerves and wish,” stated Cornel Ciurea.

For his part, expert Stanislav Pavlovschi said the Republic of Moldova is condemned to have constructive bilateral relations with all the players that have a say, including Russia, Romania, Ukraine.

“We should not forget that we have the Association Agreement with the EU, which we must respect, either we want it or not. Also, all the new technologies come from the EU. If we want to continue the path of progress, we must have good relations with everyone, without exception,” stated Stanislav Pavlovschi.
