An exhibition dedicated to the Polish Marshal Józef Piłsudski was mounted by the Polish Institute in Bucharest at the National Museum of History in Chisinau as part of the events staged to celebrate the centenary of the regaining of independence by Poland. The exhibit that consists of photo-documentary posters can be visited until November 30, IPN reports.

Attending the opening, Poland’s Ambassador to Moldova Bartłomiej Zdaniuk said the exhibition celebrates the Polish people’s wish to be free and have an independent state that provides an environment for development and progress. The personality of Józef Piłsudski is closely related to history, to the event of November 1918, when Poland regained its independence, but also to what happened earlier and later, which is that war won against Bolshevik Russia that was a turning point.

“Józef Piłsudski’s contribution was the most important one in state construction. He could have been a controversial person. In 1926 he staged a coup and returned to power. The political opposition was persecuted. By his contribution we managed then to build a veritable state with a veritable economy,” stated Bartłomiej Zdaniuk.

Agnieszka Skieterska, director of the Polish Institute in Bucharest, said she is glad that the citizens of Chisinau will find out more about the man who is the symbol of independence in Poland. “Without such people, we couldn’t have met today here. We thus remember how important freedom, sovereignty and independence are. We value these daily,” stated Agnieszka Skieterska.

On November 11, the  Embassy of Poland in Chisinau invites all those who want to lay flowers at Józef Piłsudski’s buster situated at the intersection of the streets 31 August and Petru Movilă starting at 11am.

Józef Piłsudski (1867-1935) was a famous commander who became the symbol of the regaining of independence by Poland in 1918, 123 years after it was divided an annexed by Russia, Austria and Prussia. He was the first marshal of Poland and minister of defense.
