An exhibition of Moldovan political parties, entitled “Partide.md,” will be organized for the first time in Chisinau, from December 3 to 4, by the Central Election Commission (CEC) and the Association for Participatory Democracy “Adept,” Info-Prim Neo reports. CEC deputy chair Renata Lapti stated on Monday, December 1, at a news conference that the political parties are invited to present their views and offers before the 2009 parliamentary elections. “The exhibition of the political parties has the goal to offer the voter the opportunity to have first-hand information on the evolution, schedule, work and the teams of the Moldovan political parties, and to offer the political parties access to communication, political advertising and informing the citizens on their political offer,” Renata Lapti specified. The parties and the press representatives will be proposed to analyze the final draft of the Ethics Code – a convention regarding the way of unfolding and reflecting the election campaign. The document will be proposed for signing closer to the election date. The event will include the works of the national conference “Elections 2009 – a democratic test,” which will raise very important subjects, related to the poll of spring 2009. Adept will launch the e-mail dedicated to political parties www.partide.md, and on December 4 – the 8th edition of the School of Young Leaders. According to the executive director Adept, Igor Botan, these events will offer a framework for the parties to show their virtues. “Modern democracies are, as a rule, party democracies, and the big problem we have in Moldova is the low rating of the political parties among the public institutions. 20% of the Moldovan citizens have confidence in the political parties,” Igor Botan said. The mandate of the present parliament expires on March 6, 2009. Conform to the ElectionCode, the elections unfold at the most 3 months from the mandate’s expiration. The election date is established upon the Parliament’s decision at least 60 days before the election day. The Moldovan president’s term expires on April 8. During this time the interim will be the speaker. The exhibition “Partide.md” is organized by the Association for Participatory Democracy Adept and the Central Election Commission with the financial support of the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF).
