Eleven young people with disabilities from different regions of the country displayed pictures taken at the workplace at an exhibition staged in the square before the monument to Stephan the Great in Chisinau. The exhibit can be visited by September 25. The pictures show the ability of young people with disabilities to work, the difficulties they face when looking for a job and the inaccessibility of the architectural infrastructure, IPN reports.

“This is the fifth exhibition of the kind, which forms part of a set of actions taken to inform the people and employers about the right of the persons with disabilities to work alongside their fellows,” said Ion Bulicanu, public relations coordinator at the Legal Assistance Center for People with Disabilities.

The Center’s executive director Vitalie Mester said the exhibition closes the series of actions staged during the communication campaign “I can work too”. The young people learned the photo-voice technique, methods of using the photograph and the text as instruments for documenting employment-related problems faced by people with disabilities. They hope to make themselves heard by employers, the public authorities and whole society through pictures.

“The photos I took refer to working disabled persons. I hope the exhibit will be a first step towards changing the situation in the employment process,” said student Ion Ciobanu.

As many as 108 persons with disabilities are registered at the Employment Agency of Chisinau municipality. Another 24 personas were already placed. Ten persons follow training courses, said Ala Cuciuc, director of the Center of Information on Labor Market.

According to the data of the Legal Assistance Center for People with Disabilities, in Moldova there are 180,000 persons with disabilities, including 15,000 children. 20% of them work officially.
