An exhibition of old Italian books was opened at the National Library in Chisinau on the occasion of the signing of a cooperation agreement between the institution and the Italian Culture Center of Moldova. The exhibition, which includes 64 titles, can be visited during a month as of March 15, IPN reports.

Almost 40 of the exhibited volumes depict the history of the Italian literature. The oldest book of those exhibited is “Rime di Gio. Antonio Ansaldo, Dedicate al Serenissimo Carlo Emanuel Duca di Sauoia”, which is a poetry book published in Torino in 1619. Alongside the old books, there is presented a selection of contemporary Italian belles-letters books.

National Library director general Elena Pintilei said the signing of the agreement is a follow-up to the cooperation between the National Library and the State Teacher Training University “Ion Creanga” with the Embassy of Italy in Chisinau and the Italian Culture Center. The agreement envisions the promotion of the Italian culture in Moldova by organizing cultural activities through the exchange of publications and book donations.

Italy’s Ambassador to Moldova Valeria Biagiotti expressed her conviction that this cooperation will contribute to enriching the knowledge of young people owing to reading and will increase the number of those who are fond of Italian culture and literature.

The National Library also received a donation of books from Italy. The collection will be presented in May.
